A Little About Me and Therapy 1st
I first delved in to the world of therapy as far back as 2003 studying Person Centred Counselling at the same time as studying for my degree and beginning my journey as a foster carer which lasted 18 years.
After graduating 2006 I went on to explore and qualify in many areas in psychotherapy including psychodynamic and psycho-sensory modalities. Hungry for knowledge I couldn't get enough.
I became fascinated by the way in which I was shaped growing up and how that shaping often dictated how I interacted with others throughout my life.
I spent the following decades adding to that knowledge through studying and gaining qualifications in many different therapies which I use on myself and my many varied clients.
I learned through their experiences and my own; One Size Does Not Fit All!
I have worked with Merseyside Police force helping get officers back to work after extended periods of absence through stress and PTSD. Social workers suffering from overwhelm helping them navigate the demands of their positions, giving them the skills to remain at work. I've worked with children as young as six and people well in to their eighties helping them overcome the fears of agoraphobia, low self-esteem, sexual abuse and phobias to name but a few of life's debilitating hinderances.
My number one takeaway from everything I have studied and the clients I have worked with? Our relationship with ourselves is the most important relationship we will ever have if we want to thrive yet, it is the relationship we neglect the most in favour of serving others. Why do we do this? Simply put, it is born out of a fear of judgement and ultimate rejection and this we learned though our shaping growing up!
Our brains interpret rejection as a threat of death. We are born with a survival instinct to avoid death at all costs so we do everything we can to remain in favour at the massive cost of ignoring our own needs.
Your brain can, and should, work for you not against you, and more importantly once you know how to direct it, you, like me, will also learn there is so much available to you if you say NO to that past shaping, give yourself permission to break free from the emotional bondage of fear, and accept that if you are not making your life decisions someone else is!
Take that first step, teach your brain there is more to life than survival and reach out for your free phone call.
