Child, Adolescent and Family Therapy
As a foster carer for the past 18 years, having my own three sons and working with many traumatised children and adults in my practice, I have learned to expect the unexpected responses when one or more family member suddenly shares something everyone else believed to be out of character.
People often mask how they feel when they are operating within their everyday environment, yet within a safe space they can and often do allow their disowned voices/selves to speak out.
These selves express things that they and the rest of the family are sometimes surprised by.
This can be a little disconcerting for everyone and it is my job to ensure the space remains safe, secure and comfortable to continue exploring that true identity.
Understanding your repression of these selves was simply a survival mechanism you employed due to your belief that you would not be accepted by those in your environment say, family, friends or society as a whole etc can come as quite a shock!
It has always been my mission to provide a safe place for each individual to express all parts of themselves without causing anyone or indeed themselves any harm. I do this by providing workable boundaries that everyone agrees to at the outset and together we then create out of session, age appropriate practices everyone can work toward to ensure a more harmonious home life.
Whether I am working with you as an individual, with your child/children, adolescents, your spouse or your family as a whole the aim is to support and guide you on your journey to mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.
